2008 Gonzaga Basketball Recruits and Newcomers


Linn-Mar High School (6'5" 175, Freshman)

PG - Grant Gibbs

College Hoops IQ says:

Gibbs averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a junior at Linn-Mar High School. His performance helped lead Linn-Mar to a Class 4A Iowa State Championship in 2007. In addition, Gibbs is listed as one of the nations Top-150 prep players, and is rated as the 22nd highest ranked point guard nationally by Rivals.com.

Klein Collins High School (5'11" 160, Freshman)

PG - Demetri Goodson

College Hoops IQ says:

Goodson earned Class 5A All-State honors in Texas during his junior season at Klein Collins High School. He averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game, and led Klein Collins HS to the Region 2 Title game in 2007. Similar to Gibbs, Goodson is also listed as one of the Top-150 ranked high school players in the country. He's also rated as one of the best prep prospects in the state of Texas.

Westview High School (6'10" 190, Freshman)

PF - Andy Poling

College Hoops IQ says:

Following his junior season, Poling earned Honorable Mention All-State 6A honors after leading Westview High School to a 21-8 record. He averaged 17.4 points per game as a sophomore, but that total dropped to 13.9 points per game as a junior. However, Westview took a step up in competition in 2006-07 making the jump from Class 4A to 6A.

Fremont High School (6'5" 190, Freshman)

SG - LaRon Armstead

College Hoops IQ says:

Armstead averaged 19.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as a senior at Fremont High School in Los Angeles. His on-court performance led to a First-Team All-City honor and a trip to the City Section semifinals, but Armstead is also solid in the class room (3.4 GPA) and in the community as a volunteer.

Seton Hall University (6'3" 185, Junior)

SG - Larry Davis

College Hoops IQ says:

Larry Davis played two seasons in the Big East at Seton Hall University and averaged 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game as a Pirate. He will sit out the 2008-09 season in accordance with the guidelines established by the NCAA for transferring student-athletes. Davis played his high school basketball in New York City for Christ the King High School, and was widely considered a top prep prospect.

United Kindom (6'7" 210, Freshman)

SF - Ashley Hamilton

College Hoops IQ says:

Hamilton played his high school ball at Lawrence Academy, but has also spent time at the Gran Canaria Basketball Academy in Spain. Hamilton is one of 33 players vying for a spot on Great Britain's National Team. He played for the England Under-20 National team that finished with a quarterfinal appearance at the European Championships.

Chipola College (6'4" 190, Sophomore)

SG - Vernon Teel

College Hoops IQ says:

As a senior, Teel averaged 35.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game for Flushing High School in New York. He received multiple awards as a prep player including a McDonald's All-American nomination for the 2005-06 season. Teel originally committed to play ball at Long Island University, but transfered to Chipola College. Teel helped guide Chipola College to the Florida State Championship.

University of Oregon (6'7" 210, Sophomore)

Viney played his freshman season at the University of Oregon, and averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. He will sit out the 2008-09 season in accordance with the guidelines established by the NCAA for transferring student-athletes. Viney played his high school basketball at Villa Park High School where he averaged 31 points and 12 rebounds a game as a senior.

Campbell averaged 16.3 points, 5.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game as a sophomore for Glendale Community College. His play during the 2007-08 season led to a plethora of post-season honors and awards, including a Third-Team NJCAA All-American nomination.

Hegarty averaged 9 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks per game last season at Winchendon School. Prior to attending Winchendon, Hegarty played his high school ball at Dartmouth High School.

Mitrovic participated with the Under-19 Canadian National Team last summer, and is widely considered one of the top high school basketball prospects in Canada. He played his high school basketball at Northern Secondary School, and averaged just under 20 points per game his senior season.

Last season, Waterford earned "Most Improved Player" honors for the Saint Thomas More team that finished 23-10, and advanced to the National Prep School Championship. He scored 22 points in the 2006-07 State Final, and posted 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the Championship Game this past season as a senior. Rivals.com has Chiverton ranked as the 13th highest rated basketball prospect in the state of California.

Antioch High School (6'8" 220, Freshman)

As a junior Williams contributed 10.9 points per game to his Antioch High School squad. However, his role with the team was expected to grow as a senior. Williams did not disappoint, averaging 20.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game through the first 23 games of the season. Rivals.com has Williams ranked as the 16th highest rated basketball prospect in the state of California.

During his sophomore season at South Plains College, Luciano de Souza averaged 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He started 31 of 35 games and helped lead South Plains to their first NJCAA National Championship.

Southeastern Community College (6'10" 235, Junior)

Mafra averaged 15.6 points and 6.2 rebounds a game during the 2007-08 season for Southeastern Community College. His play as a sophomore earned Mafra several honors including, First-Team All-District 11 and Third-Team All-American.

McCollom averaged 17.7 points and 5.2 assists per contest as a senior at San Diego High School. In addition to his individual statistics McCollom also helped lead San Diego HS to the 2008 CIF San Diego Section Division I Championship Title. Prior to his senior season Patrick McCollom played his high school basketball in the state of Washington.
